From Chirk Bank we made a 9 o’clock start and retraced our way back to Ellesmere, passing Frankton Junction where the bridge numbers jump from 1W to 69. The 10 mile and 2 lock trip took just about 4½ hours which was about ½ an hour quicker than going the other way. I suppose that those 12 million gallons of water which flow down the canal every day are bound to have a noticeable effect on your speed and probably your fuel consumption!
We passed this old sheep wandering about the towpath; as it was near houses perhaps it’s somebody’s pet ?
We’re now back in the Ellesmere arm where shall spend a couple of nights and restock the cupboards.
We’ve just met up with Jon & Hannah on their fuel boat nb Mountbatten but unfortunately they are waiting for a fuel delivery so we hope to catch up with them again in a few day’s time.
